BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Wednesday morning, Spartan history was made as South Warren football head coach Brandon Smith was presented a prestigious award by the Kentucky Football Coaches Association.

For the first time in school history, South Warren can say they were led by the best coach in the Bluegrass.

Smith was named the Coach of the Year for the state of Kentucky, recognizing his work during the 2025 season as the best in all classes and districts.

It was a remarkable campaign for the Spartans, who made the jump up to Class 6A and showed no growing pains, going undefeated throughout the regular season.

The dominance continued for South Warren when the playoffs arrived, with the team winning its first three meetings by a combined 72 points.

As the Class 6A 2025 UK HealthCare Sports Medicine State Football Finals rolled around, the Spartans were faced with their toughest matchup yet: the two-time defending champions from Trinity (Louisville).

Despite the daunting resume of the Shamrocks, Smith and the Spartans paid no attention to the outside noise and played a resilient championship game.

What started out as a large deficit shifted into a close game for South Warren, who had big second half plays make things interesting, but in the end, the Shamrocks would grab the 28-14 win.

Finishing with a 13-1 record in just year one of the school’s new classification is something unheard of, and that was made possible by the strong performance of the Spartan players and the excellent leadership of the Spartan coaching staff.

Congratulations to head coach Brandon Smith on being named the 2025 KFCA Coach of the Year!
