Bowling Green Police Department warns against drinking and driving
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – With the holidays in full swing, many families and companies are hosting their holiday get-togethers to celebrate the season, but the Bowling Green Police Department is warning the public to make good decisions after they are done celebrating.
The police will be on the lookout for those driving under the influence this holiday season, making sure to keep the roads as safe as possible. People can make bad decisions to drink and drive, and each year, those decisions cost money, property and sometimes even someone’s life.
“We stayed around 270 to 280 DUI arrest. That number is about the same, right now during this time of year. So generally, it has stayed the same, which is good. However, we don’t want to see any of those numbers. Right, so we would really like if that number was zero. Unfortunately, sometimes bad choices are made and consequences follow in that,” said Amber Kae Bowman, community resources officer for the BGPD.
Bowman says that with all of the options you have, there is no excuse to be drinking and driving.
“My saying is, if you drink anything, just don’t drive. There are plenty of options available. We have right here in Bowling Green, whether it’s Uber or Lyft. Of course, I’m sure friends will come pick you up. There are several options available to where you can prevent that. I would not guess at how much that you’ve consumed and what you think that your blood alcohol concentration would be at that point. It would just be safer for you to obtain a ride,” Bowman said.
DUIs carry serious consequences with fines up to $10,000 and potential jail time. This year, there have been 275 DUI arrests, resulting in 87 collisions, 24 injuries and one fatality. So be sure to never drink and drive and have a plan before you party.
