Logan County Detention Center issues warning about scam

Scam Alert

LOGAN COUNTY, Ky. – The Logan County Detention Center says it has learned about an ongoing scam allegedly targeting loved ones of inmates.

The detention center says scammers are contacting individuals by phone and falsely claiming an inmate can be released early from jail if a certain amount of money is paid.

According to the detention center, callers represent themselves as detention center staff or court officials.

The Logan County Detention Center says it does not contact families requesting payment for inmate release.

The detention center says it also does not accept payments over the phone, via gift cards, prepaid cards, wire transfers or peer-to-peer payments apps.

A legitimate bond or court-related payment is handled only through official court-approved channels, according to the detention center.

If you receive a call of this type, do not send money, do not provide personal or financial information and hang up immediately.

If you believe you have been contacted by a scammer or have already sent money, you are encouraged to report it to your local law enforcement agency.
