Red Cross hosting blood drive for Giving Tuesday
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – It’s the season of giving, and tomorrow marks ‘Giving Tuesday,’ a big day for nonprofits to raise support for their missions. But one organization is hoping to collect more than just money.
The American Red Cross, alongside Service One Credit Union, is hosting a blood drive and asking donors to give the gift of life. The Red Cross says the need for blood has outpaced the supply for some time, and donations typically slow down during the holidays. That makes drives like this even more important as they work to collect as much blood as possible during a critical time of year.
“We always see a decrease in the summer when we don’t have students in school. And then obviously over the holidays where people are just juggling so much. Right. You’ve got all these holiday parties and activities and different things that you know, you’re taking your end of the year paid time off at work. So we want people to not only sign up to give, but actually follow through on that appointment. It’s important that, you know, we keep those appointments that we make, so that we have the blood,” said Red Cross of South Central Kentucky executive director Jennifer Capps.
