Barren County first responders hold ‘Code Hunger’ food drive
BARREN COUNTY, Ky.- Barren-Metcalfe EMS and other local first responders held the “Code Hunger” food drive on Wednesday.
The local EMS, Fire and Police departments set up at Food Lion and South Gate Houchens to collect canned food, non-perishables, baby food and formula to donate to those in the community in need as the holiday season approaches.
The idea of the drive was sparked when Barren-Metcalfe EMS was giving out teddy bears to pediatric patients and heard there was an excess amount of teddy bears, but a lot of families in the community were without food or other necessities.
Jonathan Langkabel, a paramedic supervisor with Barren-Metcalfe EMS, spearheaded the food drive and helped get it going, along with the other local first responders.
When asked about what they are looking for when it comes to donations, Langkabel stated, “Any kind of canned good, any kind of nonperishable baby food or baby formula has also been popular, which, of course, we have a lot of kids hungry.”
Food Lion also helped with pre-made food boxes that were available for donation.
