How you can make a child’s Christmas wish come true
BARREN COUNTY, Ky. – It is every parent’s dream to make sure their children have their Christmas wishes come true, but for some, that can be very difficult. That is where the Barren County YMCA and Salvation Army are stepping in to help.
An Angel Tree has been set up in the county, where people can help shop and provide gifts for kids in the Barren County area. Hundreds of kids are on the list this year, and Barren County YMCA CEO Tara Bailey says its hard to imagine children struggling during the Christmas season and not receiving the gifts they deserve.
“It’s very critical that we meet those needs. Without the YMCA and the Salvation Army and organizations like ours. Some kids may go without Christmas presents. I mean, can you imagine waking up on Christmas morning and having no presents,” Bailey said.
Over 375 kids are on the Angel Tree this year, with ages ranging from infancy to 17 years old. While most of the kids have been shopped for on the tree, there are still some in need of gifts this holiday season, and those heading this project want to make sure each child gets exactly what they need.
“So each angel will get a pair of pants, socks, shoes, undergarments and a toy gift. Teenagers, they love the gift cards. You know, they’re a little bit picky about what they want, so a gift card is always a good donation. So if anybody has any unwanted gift cards, that would be a great gift. The younger kids, the most popular toys, of course, the Bluey and the Minecraft and things like that. And the traditional toys are also a good choice,” Bailey said.
You can adopt an angel at Service One Credit Union, Shoe Sensation and at Gillie Hyde Ford in Glasgow.
