Kentucky Rural Water Association hosting ‘Best Tasting Water’ contest
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Kentucky Rural Water Association is hosting its annual conference, featuring a unique competition that’s been going on for over 20 years: the Best Tasting Water Competition.
It featured 15 entries from all across Kentucky, with the winner getting a chance to compete in Washington DC at the National Conference’s Great American Water Taste Test in February.
News 40’s own Ashlee Wilson also got involved in the judging this year.
The main things the judges are looking for besides the taste are if it looks clean and what the smell is like, which is actually important for Kentuckians.
“You can have water that meets federal and state requirements from the purity standpoint, and be in compliance that [does] not necessarily taste good. There’s certain things as far as organics and different things that can affect that, but the water is safe to drink… and so what this does is the best of the best in that you got utilities that are meeting the federal and state compliance requirements from a regulatory standpoint, but also have a product that’s good to drink,” Kentucky Rural Water Association executive director Scott Young says.
This year, two of the top three were from South Central Kentucky: the Green River Valley Water District of Horse Cave won 1st place, and Glasgow Water Company finished 2nd.
