BGPR holds second engagement meeting for Master Plan

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Bowling Green Parks and Rec has been working on a Master Plan throughout 2025 to make improvements to park life in the community. Thursday, they held a second community engagement meeting, which have proven to be very valuable.

“We’re not surprised because anything that comes down to parks and recreation is always well received, and our community is very, very willing to give us information on that. It means a lot, and we know it does. Our public shows up in our parks. They take it very serious, and we’re very proud to serve them,” BGPR director Brent Belcher says.

The feedback has proven very valuable as well, as the Parks and Rec team is in the final stages of drafting up that plan.

“People really want… they want trails. They want shelters. They want to take care of our current facilities and maybe make some upgrades in what we have now. Of course everybody’s got some great ideas for the future as well, so it’s… at this point in time, every idea is a great idea for us and we’re really excited to hear what everybody has to say,” Belcher says.

As for when you can expect to see this plan take effect, Belcher says there’s a few things that they need to work on, but he hopes the city commission will be able to vote on it really soon.

“It’s gonna get approved by our Board of Commissioners, we believe the first of 2026… and from that point, it gives you a roadmap towards success for us to better serve our community. So what the community can expect from us is some I will say immediate things, but to be honest with you, something that we’ve already kind of started doing and it’s going to give us a roadmap to what facilities are coming and what programs we can do and how we can better serve our community,” Belcher says.
