ELKTON, Ky. – A Tennessee man is apprehended following a pursuit through Todd County on Sunday.

According to a uniform citation, the Todd County Sheriff’s Office observed a vehicle traveling just before 2 a.m. Sunday with one headlight on Guthrie Road at Frogue Road.

While approaching the vehicle head on, deputies say the vehicle then turned on its high beams.

Deputies say despite turning around to conduct a traffic stop, the vehicle accelerated at a high speed.

Authorities say a pursuit then began, with the fleeing vehicle reaching speeds up to 113 miles per hour.

Due to the speed, authorities say this placed the deputy at a great risk of death or serious injury.

The vehicle then came to a stop on Garth Lane, authorities say.

The driver, identified as 40-year-old Robert Brewer of Big Sandy, Tennessee, was then instructed to exit the vehicle and was arrested without further incident.

Brewer was “manifestly intoxicated on a controlled substance,” according to the citation.

During a vehicle search, authorities say they located a straw with a crystal-like substance suspected to be methamphetamine.

Brewer remains at the Todd County Jail on charges of speeding 26 mph or greater over the speed limit, first-degree fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle), reckless driving, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of a substance , third offense, first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, first-degree possession of a controlled substance, first offense (methamphetamine) and drug paraphernalia – buy/possess.
