Congressman Brett Guthrie discusses health in Energy and Commerce committee hearings
WASHINGTON – On Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. this week, Congressman Brett Guthrie joined other congressman and women for a hearing on the Nancy Gardner Sewell Medicare Multi-Cancer Early Detection Screening Coverage Act.
This act is very important and would allow Medicare coverage for multi-cancer early detection tests. These tests, along with crucial research and discovery made over the years, could play a huge role in not only detecting, but preventing certain cancers.
“This committee carried out critical work on policies to bolster seniors access to the latest breakthrough medical technologies and to reform Medicare coverage pathways. Today, we’re continuing the conversation by examining several important policies that would enhance Medicare’s coverage of FDA approved breakthrough devices, allow for Medicare coverage of multi cancer and early detection tests, and provide for common sense reforms in the Medicare, national and local coverage determination process,” Guthrie said.
Guthrie also discuss other important health issues like the Give Kids A Chance Act, which could accelerate research for rare pediatric diseases.
“The kids give a chance to Act of 2025 bills on current programs to accelerate research and drug development for rare pediatric diseases, including cancer. One important part of this legislation is the reauthorize ERA. At the resolution of the rare pediatric disease Priority Review Voucher, or PRV. This program provides a critical incentive for companies to develop treatments and cures. Since 2012, the program has proven successful, leading over 50 new treatment approvals for nearly 40 different rare pediatric diseases, many of which have no options, had no options prior,” Guthrie said.
