Kentucky nurse saves drunk raccoon from dumpster

LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) – One raccoon is alive and well thanks to the quick actions of a Kentucky nurse.

After finding a raccoon drunk and drowned in a water-filled dumpster, a determined nurse pulled out all the stops, administering life-saving CPR to the ailing animal.

WLEX reports Misty Combs was working at the Letcher County Health Department when her coworkers spotted an adult raccoon in the parking lot acting strange.

They discovered two of the raccoon’s babies were trapped in a nearby distillery’s dumpster.

They had reportedly been snacking on fermented peaches used to make moonshine.

Combs was able to get one of the animals out, but the other was unresponsive, submerged in rainwater.

The nurse removed the inebriated animal by the tail and started chest compressions, then gently slapped its back to remove the water.

Her lifesaving efforts worked, as the raccoon eventually began breathing again.

A local vet was able to get the animal, later named Otis, nursed back to health.

Its hero nurse was on hand to release it back into the wild – older, wiser and sober as a judge.
