Sen. Rand Paul speaks at Franklin-Simpson Chamber of Commerce Open House

FRANKLIN, Ky. – Sen. Rand Paul addressed community leaders and the public in Franklin Monday.

He spoke at the community room at the police department and discussed several issues that affect Kentucky.

Paul said while he likes President Donald Trump, he disagrees with his tariffs. Paul sees them as an additional tax affecting even the international businesses that do not locate here since they will have to pay tariffs on any parts or raw materials that they do buy from overseas suppliers.

Paul says, “Communities, even like Franklin, you know, have international businesses come here. We want them to come here. And so we have to have fair policies where everybody’s treated with respect. And we are welcoming to those people in our community because, frankly, Franklin and Bowling Green have grown significantly because of the international businesses that have come and located in our midst.”

Paul also said he disagreed with the administration’s destruction of a boat last week that was allegedly traveling from Venezuela to the United States with drugs on board.

Paul said our laws require due process through the legal system absent a war. The senator stated there was just too much room for error given the boat was over 2,000 miles away from the United States.
