Kentucky State Police Trooper Island campers return to Bowling Green
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The kids who camped at Trooper Island returned to Kentucky State Police Post Three on Friday after a week-long adventure at the Kentucky State Police Recreational Facility.
Campers, aged 10 to 12, experienced fishing, kayaking, archery and swimming at the island in Dale Hollow Lake.
The program gives underprivileged, young people the chance to get away from the turmoil of everyday life and learn from the troopers and junior counselors.
Korbyn Parker, junior counselor with Trooper Island, says, “When all the kids arrived, they were very shy and they didn’t want to talk. And they were really, like, nervous about going on. And then when they got in and on the island, they started making connections and making new friends.
Thirty-two children from the Post Three area participated this year.
KSP Post Three public affairs officer Trooper Katan Parker says, “We really want them to be able to just like, be around police officers and actually get the understanding that we’re here to help. And just we care about our kids in our community. We want them to have fun.”
If you have a child aged 10 to 12 who might benefit from the program, you can apply for the yearly event on the KSP website here.
