Med Center Health discusses keeping up with your vaccinations

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – This week, doctors around the country are reminding their patients to stay up to date on their immunizations.

While getting shots may not be the best part of going to the doctor, they are a very important part of keeping both yourself and others around you safe from some very dangerous diseases.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, trust in vaccinations and vaccinations rates have declined. This has become especially evident in diseases, such as measles, which has now infected nearly 900 people across the United States.

But it is just as important for adults to keep up to date on our vaccinations as well, even when life seems to get in the way of vaccination appointments.

“Around 16 to 18 years and after that, there is a huge gap year, right? And from around 18 years to 40 years, many of our patients or many people do not go to doctors. Right, so, like, I would recommend strongly keep up with the flu shots, keep up with COVID shots, and definitely keep up with your Tdap shots,” said Dr. Suman Shekar with Med Center Health.

Shekar says if parents or adults need more information on vaccines and their safety to head to the CDC’s website or contact your primary care provider to learn more.
