Metcalfe senior awarded $500 Hershey grant

EDMONTON, Ky. – Metcalfe County High School senior Claire Shapiro is being recognized as a 2025 Hershey Heartwarming Hero.
As a Hero, school officials say she will receive a $500 grant from Youth Service America and The Hershey Company to help fund a Helping Hornets project to provide personal care kits to local foster children.
“We are incredibly proud of Claire and her unwavering commitment to serving our community,” MCHS principal Joseph Eaton said. “Her selfless actions and positive impact are truly inspiring.”
According to Metcalfe County Schools, Claire will lead a team of 50 volunteers on the project during Youth Service Month from April 11 through May 11.
Eaton said, “The Hershey’s Heartwarming Young Hero grant is a well-deserved recognition of Claire’s hard work, compassion, and dedication to making the world a better place. She continues to impress and will do the same after she graduates in May. I look forward to witnessing all that she will accomplish moving forward. Claire is a shining example of what Hornet Hustle is really about!”
Claire and her Helping Hornets team will work with the Metcalfe County Youth Services Center to distribute the personal care kits.
