Allen County-Scottsville HS teacher charged with distribution of obscene matter
SCOTTSVILLE, Ky. – An Allen County high school teacher is facing charges after students allegedly saw obscene matter on her personal phone or laptop at school.
According to a uniform citation, the Allen County Sheriff’s Office conducted an investigation on Tuesday at Allen County-Scottsville High School involving 25-year-old Kerston Raines of Franklin.
Deputies say they were informed Raines had shown nude photographs to a student.
Authorities say they were told by a student that Raines had shown the student text messages between Raines and an adult male showing nudity of both individuals that were texting.
According to deputies, Raines was contacted and spoke to them at the sheriff’s office.
During this time, the citation states Raines confirmed the photos were on her phone that is synced to her personal laptop at the school. She further stated she did not show any student these pictures intentionally, deputies say, but that students have the opportunity to see her laptop or access her phone at times to select music in class.
The citation further states, “With Raines knowing the photos were on her phone and that these photos were synced to her personal laptop at school, she had knowledge that students may be able to easily access these images.”
Raines was taken to the Allen County Detention Center, where she has since been released on a charge of distribution of obscene matter to minors, first offense.
