Bowling Green police raise awareness of motorcycle safety

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- As spring settles in, the number of motorcyclists on the road ramps up, creating an increased need for awareness.

Law enforcement reports that 70% of motorcycle accidents occur at intersections, often due to a lack of visibility and drivers not paying attention.

Public information officer Ronnie Ward of the Bowling Green Police Department emphasizes that motorcyclists also share some responsibility for their safety. He advises riders to ensure their bike lights are functioning and to wear reflective gear, making themselves more visible to other drivers.

While collisions may seem more frequent during the spring, Ward points out that it’s not just the season that poses a risk.

“We do pay more attention to collisions in the spring, but the reality is the danger is always there,” he explains.

Spring marks the start of the riding season, which often brings a few collisions after months of no incidents. Regardless of the time of year, staying aware on the road is crucial for both motorcyclists and other drivers.
