UPDATE: 2 arrested after stolen vehicle leads pursuit in Logan County
AUBURN, Ky. – Authorities say two people have been arrested after a pursuit in Logan County on Tuesday.
Logan County Sheriff Stephen Stratton confirmed 25-year-old Carballo Fernandez and 48-year-old Gonzalo Cerventas-Zamora are facing multiple charges related to the incident.
According to the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, deputies observed a white van pull up to a fence line at Cole Lumber in Auburn at 10:09 p.m. Tuesday and turn off its lights.
Deputies say an unidentified male then exited the vehicle and jumped the fence. While authorities searched the fenced area, they say they a white flatbed Chevy pickup truck began circling the area.
Upon spotting the deputy, authorities say the truck drove off at a high speed, westbound on Echo Valley Road. The truck later returned to the scene.
During this time, authorities say the truck blacked out its lights and accelerated toward a deputy’s cruiser. According to authorities, the deputy on the other side of the fence ordered the driver to stop at gunpoint.
The unidentified male who had jumped the fence then entered the truck, fleeing the scene and traveling on U.S. 68-80 westbound at a high speed.
The Russellville Police Department then saw the vehicle, authorities say, and tried to make a traffic stop.
Authorities say the driver continued traveling, leading to a pursuit on C. Dodson Road.
Deputies say they lost sight of the vehicle when it crashed through a cattle gate and fence.
The vehicle was later located parked in a cattle field with no one present.
Authorities say the truck was reported stolen from Nashville Metro. Both vehicles contained suspected methamphetamine, officials say.
Stratton says a third suspect is believed to have somehow gotten picked up and is not in the area, however, they are still patrolling.
