Bridge Project helping local pregnant women

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A new project aimed at helping low-income families provide better opportunities for their children and families is available. The Bridge Project, an organization aimed to help families in the Appalachian region, is offering cash to women and families who need it most. Women interested in applying, must be 10 years or older, 14 weeks pregnant or less, and have a household income of $44,000  or less.

Those who apply and meet those standards will receive financial help through pregnancy and the first 3 years of the child’s life.

One representative of the bridge project says they’ve seen big improvements in these families’ lives.

“Unsurprisingly, giving people money impacts just about every aspect of your life, right? One of the most exciting to me things that we’ve seen is that for our moms who start in shelter, there’s a significant reduction in the time and shelter once they join the program. And so of our moms who joined, there was a 63% of them who are living in shelter were able to be in stable housing after just nine months in the program” said Tegan Lechler, the National Program Director for the Bridge Project.
