Louisville detective and woman help man off of edge of bridge

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WLKY) – A Louisville detective stepped in to help save a life at the Clark Memorial Bridge.
WLKY reports an officer pulled up to an incident at the bridge, where a man attempted to climb over the railing while a woman tried to stop him.
Louisville Metro Police Department detective Kyle Willis got out to help.
The woman first spotted the man on Sunday while out for her daily run.
Before police arrived, she had already stopped him once from jumping. The man walked away from her, and that’s when Willis gets out as the man tries to jump again.
Willis can’t reach his radio, where there’s an orange distress button, which notifies more officers to respond.
The woman pressed the button, and almost immediately, other officers show up before the man is taken to the hospital.
It’s a moment Willis says no amount of training can prepare you for.
LMPD has dubbed the woman who helped “The Angel on the Bridge.”
The agency says the woman is choosing to stay anonymous. Meanwhile, Willis says he talked with the man while he was in the hospital.
Willis says, “What I did tell him was, is he’s supposed to be here without a doubt.”
He says the man shook his hand, and he gave him a hug.
“That meant everything to me in that moment,” Willis says.
It’s an event that Willis himself is still trying to process, but he says officers are trying to protect the community every day.
