Hank Plona says Julius Thedford is not ruled out for rest of season after injury

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – During WKU men’s basketball’s 71-57 loss to MTSU last weekend, freshman guard Julius Thedford suffered an injury on the court that sidelined him for the rest of the game.

Towards the beginning of the second half, Thedford took a hard fall to the ground that resulted in him clutching his knee in significant pain.

The concerning injury was enough to prompt Hilltopper fans to believe there was a chance Thedford could be out for the rest of the season.

On Tuesday morning, head coach Hank Plona shared an anticipated update on the freshman.

During the game, Thedford dislocated his kneecap and tore a ligament, injuries that do not require surgery, but will require some time of rehab.

In terms of what this means for Thedford and his return to the court, Plona remained optimistic for the possibility.

“ For a dislocated kneecap, it’s as not major of an injury as you could have,” Plona said, “But obviously, when a ligament tears and you dislocate your kneecap, it’s still a significant injury. We’ll see how he rehabs, but I would expect him out for a couple of weeks for sure. He is not ruled out for the year, and I know he’s working very hard to try to get back and help his team.”

WKU has two upcoming road matchups this week at Louisiana Tech and Sam Houston in which Thedford will not see action in for the first time this season.

Thedford is now the second player on WKU’s roster along with Babacar Faye to have a question mark next to the possibility of return before the season ends.
