Capitol to host Warming Movie Marathon on Dec. 26

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – If you’re looking for something fun for the family this holiday season, the Capitol Theatre has a full day’s worth of movies for free.

On Thursday, Dec. 26 starting at 8 a.m., you and your family can head over to the Capitol downtown for a showing of four sci-fi movies.

It starts with the classic 1953 version of “The War of the Worlds,” followed by 1968’s “Planet of the Apes” at 10 a.m., then “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” at noon and finally the all-time classic “ET” at 2:30 p.m., and if you’re wondering why these four movies, you can thank a member of the Capitol’s staff that joined the team after last year’s marathon.

“This year, Daniel Ungs has actually curated with his broad knowledge of films. The sci-fi collection, that, I think, just comes from his love of film, and I don’t think there’s anything deeper to it than that other than that we really love these movies, and we’re looking for an excuse to show them,” Magnolia Gramling, the manager of the Capitol Theater by Warren County Public Library, says.

This is the second year the Capitol is hosting this marathon of movies, and it’s all about making some people have somewhere to go or something else to look forward to this holiday season.

“We acknowledge that not everybody has a place to go on Christmas, or perhaps there are people who are tired of being cooped in the house and are ready to go out and do something with their family and celebrate into the new year. So that’s what this event is for, and all are welcome,” Gramling says.

Again, that marathon takes place on Thursday, Dec. 26 at the Capitol in downtown Bowling Green.
