Commonwealth remembers Lana Grandon, champion of victims affected by crime

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Commonwealth of Kentucky is mourning the loss of one of its most influential advocates for families of those who have been affected by crimes in the state.

Lana Grandon passed away on Nov. 8 at the age of 63. Thirty-two of those years were spent as the assistant attorney general for Kentucky.

She also worked in helping with the Violence Against Women’s Act grant that the Barren River Area Safe Space receives, as well as helping with the Kentucky Victims Assistance Academy, but beyond any title she had, she believed in the good in people.

“Lana just had the biggest, most beautiful heart that you could imagine… and she put everyone first, and she made you feel like the most important person in the room… and that was whether you were the victim that she was supporting or the professional that needed the support to lean on. She had the ear, she had the answer for you, or she was just there to listen to you,” Sarah Hayes, a board member at BRASS, says.

Her celebration of life was held Sunday afternoon in Frankfort. Gov. Andy Beshear posted a message to his Facebook as well, saying Team Kentucky lost a true public servant, a tireless advocate for crime victims and their families and a mentor to countless other advocates and attorneys.
