Tennessee man charged with DUI, assault of police officer in Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A Tennessee man is facing multiple charges, including driving while under the influence and assault of a police officer, in Bowling Green.

According to a uniform citation, shortly before midnight Thursday, the Bowling Green Police Department responded to the intersection of Scottsville Road and Ashley Circle for a non-injury collision.

Authorities say upon arrival, they spoke to 25-year-old Gerson Linares of Hermitage, Tennessee.

Police say Linares stated he did not notice a red light and rear ended another vehicle. According to authorities, Linares smelled strongly of alcoholic beverages.

Officer say they attempted Standard Field Sobriety Testing, however, it could not be completed due to Linares not cooperating.

Linares was arrested and transported to TriStar Greenview Regional Hospital for medical clearance.

Authorities say while trying to transport Linares, he resisted getting into a police cruiser and later resisted being taken to a hospital room. Once there, he allegedly spit multiple times on officers.

Police say Linares also broke a hospital bed valued at an estimated $8,000 to $10,000.

Following medical clearance, he was lodged at the Warren County Regional Jail.

He faces charges of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, first offense, second-degree disorderly conduct, no operators – moped license, failure of owner to maintain required insurance/security, first offense, menacing, resisting arrest, third-degree assault of a police officer or probation officer, first-degree criminal mischief and first-degree wanton endangerment.
