10-year-old flown after weekend wreck in Logan County

LOGAN COUNTY, Ky. – The Logan County Sheriff’s Office responded over the weekend for an injury collision.
According to a release, Logan County deputies responded around 10:08 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12 to the area of Proctor Mill Road and Duncan Chapel Road for a wreck with injuries.
Deputies say upon arrival, they located a Chevrolet 2500 pickup truck in the northbound lane with heavy damage to the front.
Authorities say they also located a maroon Dodge Caravan off of the road to the right of the large truck with damage to the entire vehicle.
Through further investigation, deputies say they learned the Chevrolet was traveling northbound on Proctor Mill Road at a high rate of speed and failed to move to its lane while entering the crest of a hill before striking the Dodge head on.
The operator of the Dodge Caravan was able to free himself and his front passenger, authorities say.
Deputies say two children, ages 9 and 10, were located inside of the vehicle, with a 10-year-old having multiple lacerations and injuries.
The release says a Logan County deputy, along with a volunteer from the Auburn Rural Fire Department, treated the child’s injuries until EMS arrived.
Logan County EMS and the Auburn Rural Fire Department were able to free the 10-year-old from the vehicle and transport the child to Russellville City Fire Department to be flown for treatment, according to the release.
The 9-year-old was released at the scene with minor injuries to a family member, authorities say.
EMS transported the passenger of the Dodge Caravan to the Medical Center at Russellville for her injuries.
Authorities say a 16-year-old juvenile driver of the Chevrolet had minor injuries and was released on scene.
