Edmonson County Lions Club launches hurricane relief effort
Saturday Oct. 12, 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.
EDMONSON COUNTY, Ky. – The Edmonson County Lions Club is taking action to support victims of Hurricane Helene through a dedicated relief event scheduled for this Saturday.
Judge Executive Scott Lindsey shared details about the initiative, which aims to assist those affected in the southeastern United States, particularly in North and South Carolina. “We decided to do something for them because we have friends and family in those areas,” Lindsey explained. He noted that one club member, Matt Reynolds, has already delivered a truckload of supplies and monetary donations to a church in South Carolina, which was in desperate need of assistance.
The event will focus on gathering supplies for those impacted by the hurricane, with a particular emphasis on items that are essential for daily living. “If you use it on a daily basis, there is a need for it,” Lindsey stated, highlighting specific needs such as propane tanks and winter clothing as the weather cools.
In addition to clothing and winter supplies, the Lions Club is collecting baby items like diapers, wipes, and formula. “We have a list of everything that we’re looking for, and we’re happy to pick up donations even from outside our area,” he added. The club will continue accepting donations until next Friday, and both monetary contributions and supplies are welcome.
The upcoming event will take place on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in front of Jacob’s Home Furnishings in Brownsville. Local vendors will be present, including Pelican Ice, known for their popular shaved ice. Additionally, Dad’s Barbecue has provided food for the lunch plates, with 100% of the proceeds going to the relief effort.
Lindsey emphasized the community spirit surrounding the initiative, stating, “We just want to help as many people as we can.” He shared a poignant moment when Reynolds delivered supplies to a church in South Carolina, where the emotional response from those receiving help underscored the impact of their efforts.
