New K9 officer at Cave City Police Department

CAVE CITY, Ky. – It’s a first for both an officer and the dog, a new addition to the K9 unit in Cave City.

Newly certified K9 Officer Jacob Kersey and Dutch Shepherd puppy Mako made their first drug arrest on Saturday, August 31 after Mako positively identified the presence of meth and marijuana in a vehicle. Officer Kersey said he and the rest of the department were proud of the early success and it was pretty gratifying for him after spending so many hours in training with Mako.

Chief Paul Reynolds said further developing the K9 unit is a goal of his after coming into his new office and this was a reassuring feat for the endeavor. Officer Kersey told us that the goal is to have a dog on every shift.
