Russellville man fires gunshot during robbery, charged with attempted murder

RUSSELLVILLE, Ky. – A Russellville man is charged with attempted murder following a robbery.

In an indictment document released to WNKY News 40, the Commonwealth of Kentucky Logan County Circuit Court says Rakeal Elliot, 19 of Russellville, committed a robbery on July 20, 2024.

The office says that during the robbery, Elliot threatened to accomplish the theft by pointing a firearm at a man and firing a gunshot.

The document states that a juvenile was present at the scene and was in the range of the gunshot.

Elliot is also accused of unlawfully taking a set of keys to a vehicle belonging to a woman and stealing items totaling less than $500.

The Logan County Circuit Court issued a warrant on August 20, 2024.

The Logan County Sheriff’s Office served the warrant on August 22, 2024, on West Third Street. Elliot was taken into custody and is lodged at the Logan County Detention Center.

The grand jury is charging Elliot with attempted murder, first-degree robbery, first-degree wanton endangerment (discharge of a firearm) and theft by unlawful taking or disposition of an automobile.
