NEW DETAILS: Death after Glasgow house fire ruled accidental

GLASGOW, Ky. – Officials have released further information after one person died following a house fire in Glasgow.

On Saturday, July 20, the Glasgow Fire Department responded in the early hours of the morning to a house fire at the 100 block of Hummingbird Lane in Glasgow, arriving to see smoke coming from a front room of the residence.

Upon extinguishing the fire, firefighters discovered one person dead, leading them to call both on the Glasgow Police Department and the Barren County coroner.

The victim has since been identified as Heather Berube, according to Barren County coroner Tim Gibson. On Friday, Aug. 30, Gibson confirmed Berube’s death has been ruled as accidental.

News 40 spoke to GPD public information officer major Terry Flatt, who shared a release on Aug. 30 with further details.

According to the release, detective Quetin Phillips with GOD conducted an intensive investigation with the assistance from the State Fire Marshall’s Office, Kentucky State Police Arson Investigator, Engineering Fire and Environmental Services and determined that the cause of the fire was due to an electrical failure wiring that led to an outside electrical plug.

It was determined that no foul play was suspected, and the death was determined as accidental, the release states.

Glasgow fire chief William Rock said the fire was contained to only one room, while the rest of the house seems to have minor smoke damage.
