Pelosi: Impeachment inquiry shows “Evidence Of Bribery”

(NBC News) Fallout continues from the first day of public impeachment hearings, with both sides of the aisle claiming the testimony helped them.

Democrats are pursuing the revelation of another phone call involving President Trump that they believe will advance their case.

“The devastating testimony corroborated evidence of bribery,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said.

Republicans, meanwhile, downplayed the account of events offered by the first witnesses.

“There’s nothing compelling, there’s nothing overwhelming,” said House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy.

Democrats focusing on a surprise revelation from Ambassador William Taylor, who testified a staff member overheard President Trump pushing for Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden during a phone call with Ambassador to the European Union Gordon Sondland, and that Sondland told the staffer “President Trump cares more about the investigations of Biden.”

Ambassador Sondland will face questions about that newly revealed call, and whether military aid to Ukraine was delayed as part of a quid pro quo, when he testifies publicly next week.
