Woman charged after allegedly attempting to set man on fire in Franklin

FRANKLIN, Ky. – One woman is behind bars after allegedly attempting to set a man on fire in Franklin, authorities say.

According to a uniform citation, the Simpson County Sheriff’s Office responded Tuesday to 6560 Scottsville Road in Simpson County regarding a reported suspicious person.

Authorities say they identified the individual as 41-year-old Shawnie Cranmore.

Deputies say the resident of the home stated he had woken up early to the smell of smoke. Authorities say the resident stated he rushed outside and found the side of his house on fire.

After putting the flames out, authorities say the resident stated he saw Cranmore in his yard. He stated she later returned with gasoline and attempted to turn a lighter on to set him on fire, according to the citation.

Authorities say Cranmore admitted to filling a jug with gasoline to “scare” him with it and burn his truck down. She additionally stated she had tried to break the bedroom window and back door before getting gasoline but was unsuccessful, authorities say.

Cranmore was arrested and charged with first-degree arson, first-degree assault and first-degree attempted burglary.
