Goodwill Industries of Kentucky offers “Another Way” to help the homeless

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A program born in Louisville has now made it’s way to Bowling Green and is hoping to bring big change to the homeless community.
In 2021 a project was started to help aid the homeless population in Louisville which became a big success and now has come down to Bowling Green to hopefully do the same. It’s called the “Another Way” program and gives unhoused people a chance to re-enter the workforce. Team members will go out every Tuesday and Thursday to various encampments and simply ask if anyone would like to make a little money that day.
Those who are willing to hop on the van will then be transported to a work site to help out for a few hours, typically cleaning up trash and are given a $50 dollar prepaid visa card for their service which ultimately serves as the first step in getting them connected with various resources that can place them in housing and a stable career.
Sharon Allgeier, the program’s leader said she’s seen many lives completely turned around by this outreach program and is excited to bring it to Bowling Green.
Allgeier said this is the first program like this in the country and since its inception, many other states have at conferences inquired about how to start something similar in their state.
