Hotel and restaurant staff battle it out at SKYHA Hospitality Olympics

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – At the Sloan Convention Center, hotel and restaurant staff cut loose and got competitive as part of their annual tradition.

News 40 stopped by the center to watch all the games played and laughs exchanged as the Southern Kentucky Hospitality Association held their annual Olympic games centered around things that hospitality workers do every day. The station spoke briefly to past president, Michael Nunn, who said it’s something people look forward to every year.

Nunn told us a paycheck is nice, but showing appreciation in other ways is important as well.

Nunn said, “Whether you’re in the most expensive hotel in the area or the cheapest, the work is all the same; folding towels, changing sheets…”

The past president said it’s not the event that boosts morale, it’s the people there, and this is just one way the organization uses to provide some sense of fun for the community.

News 40 also spoke to the general manager of Home 2 in Bowling Green, who recently came here from Radcliffe, Kentucky.

Philip Carter said, “Where I came from, this kind of thing isn’t around, so it’s cool to see all of this happening. There’s not a lot for those of us who are in the hospitality industry.”
