Tennessee child remains hospitalized after being swept into storm drain

RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. – A child in Rutherford County, Tennessee remains in critical condition after being swept into a storm drain last week.

Nine-year-old Asher is the son of Rutherford County Schools superintendent and director Dr. Jimmy Sullivan. The child was severely injured on May 8 when the incident occurred after storms had hit the area.

His father has provided several public updates to social media, stating in his latest post Tuesday that Asher’s condition has not improved or worsened.

He stated that Asher’s blood pressure and pulse remain a problem, and he has stopped breathing on his own.

Prior to this, his father stated on Sunday that Asher has suffered severe brain damage. The Sullivans say right now, they continue to wait for any positive signs of improvement from their son.

The district has been showing support in multiple ways, including a prayer vigil.

The district says Asher continues to receive medical care at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

This is a developing story. News 40 will provide further updates as more information is released.
