Beshear orders flags to half-staff in honor of Kentucky WWII soldier
FRANKFORT, Ky. – Gov. Andy Beshear has ordered that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff until sunset Wednesday, Nov. 29.
According to a release by the governor’s office, the tribute is to honor a Kentucky soldier who died in World War II. The governor says the remains of U.S. Army Pfc. Henry C. Wade of Decatur, Kentucky were only identified in summer.
Wade was a member of Company K, 3rd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division. He was killed in a battle with German forces near the Belgian-German border in November 1944, according to the governor.
A graveside service with full military honors took place at Mill Springs National Cemetery in Nancy, Kentucky on Wednesday.
All individuals are encouraged to take part in lowering flags for this tribute.
