Smiths Grove Lions Club shows appreciation for Warren RECC
WARREN COUNTY, Ky. -The Smiths Grove Lions Club is honoring Warren RECC for all the assistance they gave the Smiths Grove community following numerous catastrophic hurricanes. The WRECC linemen were honored by the Lions Club at a breakfast in their honor.
The treasurer with Smiths Grove Lions Club, John Smith says, “We thought $50 might not buy too many energy bars, so we decided to have this pancake breakfast for them and just show them that we appreciate them and what they do for our community, and that many more people recognize what they do.”
The Lions Club was unable to express their gratitude without the help and donations of members of the community. A former Lions Club member tells us what motivates her to make a difference in her neighborhood and the individuals who serve her community.
A community member who played. a large role in making the day possible is Ginny Sims. She says, “It’s a great feeling because what I gave was not much and for a little bit to go a long way, and you know, sometimes at all, it takes it, you know, one little small thing can really, you know, spread through the whole community.
This small effort has an impact on the linemen by not only satisfying their bellies with delicious pancakes. The communities they serve also fulfill and encourage them.
To truly understand the value of this service, we had to speak with a member of the WRECC Team. Fleet maintenance supervisor, Andy Mellow describes the experience without any hesitation. He says, “It’s absolutely delicious, but to hear somebody come in from the public just directly in the morning and show their appreciation, it does mean a lot.”
The Lions Club contemplated donating to a larger group, but ultimately decided that they wanted to invest in those closer to home.
Sims also shares her understanding and compassion for what is going on around the world. She says, “With everything going on in our nation, we sometimes forget our small communities where we live. And it’s important to help where we live because where we live is where we grow and where we can truly make an impact.”
Organizers believe that this act of kindness will have a genuine impact on those people on the front lines who work tirelessly for the areas they care about and love.
Smith leaves us with hope and the ultimate objective of today, as well as all that the Lion’s Club provides for many communities. He says, “Well, we hope it shows BG, strong. And we just hope that that spirit that we had never dies. And it just keeps on and on in this Warren County in Bowling Green. I hope they appreciate that the community appreciates what they do.”
The Smiths Grove Lions Club has many upcoming community service projects planned, including a chili supper and auction in December. WNKY News 40 will continue to keep you informed on this along with other upcoming events.
