Safety Tips for the upcoming spooky season
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – As the spooky season approaches, there are a few things you might want to consider if you’re planning on doing the traditional holiday festivities like tricker-treating or lighting candles in pumpkins.
Some traditions can be quite dangerous. Especially when it comes to candles, you might want to make some changes.
Bob Skipper of the Woodburn Fire Department, shares, “From Halloween to Christmas through thanksgiving, people like them for decorations. Some use them for religious reasons, but they also estimate that 80-85% of these fires could be prevented.”
After speaking with Bob, we also learned that there are at least 20 fires a day, and there are many ways that we can avoid this possibly happening to you. You can do this by keeping your candles from flammable objects or even using battery operated candles, but fires are not the only thing that we should be looking out for.
According to Ronnie Ward, of the Bowling Green Police Department gives us the perspective that a lot of tricker-treaters won’t be focused on the dangers, because their main goal is the candy.
He says, “Imagine that these kids are not paying attention, and think about what a child is looking for and they’re just trying to get wherever it is there trying to go quickly. They’re not thinking about traffic or cars moving around inside of parking lots. “
