Event at dog park raises money for American Cancer Society

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Saturday the American Cancer Society held its annual Bark for Life at H.P. Thomas Barkpark in Bowling Green.

The event raises money for the American Cancer Society and Kelli Brown, a volunteer for the event, said she’s encouraged by the interest from local businesses this year and based on that increased interest, she believes they will beat last year’s total of $5,000 raised.

As of the start of the walk, nearly 50 walkers and their canine family members registered to walk. There was a talent show for the dogs and even chicken-broth flavored shave ice to help parched puppies cool down.

The purpose of the walk is to celebrate canine cancer survivors and the relationship between humans and their dogs, Brown said.

WNKY’s own Soky the Weather Dog made an appearance.
