Trump Administration targets E-Cigarettes
(NBC News) The White House announced Wednesday a plan to ban the sale of flavored electronic cigarettes.
The move comes amid what some are calling a “vaping crisis.” Hundreds of illnesses linked to the use of e-cigarettes are being investigated, along with several deaths.
President Trump outline the proposed ban while speaking to reporters after an Oval Office meeting with the acting FDA commissioner and Secretary of Health and Human Services.
“A lot of people think vaping is wonderful, is great. It’s really not,” Mr. Trump said.
Secretary of Health and Human Services Alex Azar later released a statement reading in part “We will not stand idly by as these products become an on-ramp to combustible cigarettes or nicotine addiction for a generation of youth.”
The proposed ban would target non-tobacco flavored e-cigarettes and vaping fluid, which critics say is designed to appeal to young users.
