Dorian lashes North Carolina’s Outer Banks

(NBC News) After creeping along the Atlantic coast for days, Hurricane Dorian finally made landfall friday on North Carolina’s Outer Banks.

The storm swallowed the barrier islands as it made landfall as a Category One storm, battering the area with 90 mile per hour winds.

Ocracoke Island, accessible only by ferry, was hard hit by several feet of flood water pushed in from the Pamlico Sound.

National Guard members are flying supplies to residents now trapped on Ocracoke, and evacuating those who can no longer stay.
