Glasgow Police Chief Jennifer Arbogast to retire April 1st amidst controversy

Mayor asks Glasgow police chief to resign following multiple officer resignations

GLASGOW, Ky. -After 21 years serving Glasgow’s law enforcement, Glasgow Police Chief Jennifer Arbogast announced she will retire effective April 1.

Glasgow Mayor Henry Royse tells News 40 he asked Arbogast to resign during a private, face-to-face conversation. Royse attributes his decision solely to the fact that 12 Glasgow police officers had resigned since January 1st this year.

Royse, councilmembers, and the city attorney have also received anonymous emails – claiming to be from various employees within Glasgow Police Department – voicing concerns about the department’s leadership and protocol. Royse says these anonymous emails did not influence his decision.

“I don’t know exactly the reasons for [the officers leaving], but sometimes you just need a change at the top to change the direction of the department,” said Royse. “And that was the only reason.”

Mayor Royse says Chief Arbogast will exhaust vacation time until her resignation. Glasgow Police Department’s Assistant Chief Major Flatt is serving as Interim Police Chief until April 1st.
