Bowling Green Hosts Special Olympics Region 1 Basketball Tournament

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Over 300 Special Olympics Kentucky athletes took to the hardwood on Saturday in Bowling Green.

There were 36 teams that competed in the 2023 Special Olympics Kentucky Region 1 Basketball Tournament for a shot at the state tournament in Louisville, on March 11-12.

Basketball is one of the most popular and enjoyable Special Olympics sports in the state of Kentucky with over 1,000 athletes competing statewide.

Holly Vincent, the Director of Special Olympics Sports and Recreation stated, “We believe that recreation is for everyone, whether you have a disability or not, and recreation can play a huge part in social development.”

Participation in events is open to all individuals eight years or older.
