Man accused of breaking into auto parts store

Bowling Green police responded early Monday morning to O’Reilly Auto Parts at 2178 Russellville Road after the business alarm sounded.

Police noted they found no indication of forced entry but did find damage to the deposit safe. The key pad was torn off and the handle was bent.

Officers searched the building and said they found Robert Wayne Coffey, 29, hidden in a small shelf crevice, according to his arrest citation. He was wearing gloves and said he used a screwdriver to force open the side entrance to the business.

Police ordered Coffey to get out of the shelving area. Once in custody, he told police he attempted to pry open the cash registers but failed, according to this arrest citation.

He was charged with third-degree burglary, first-degree criminal mischief and possession of burglary tools.

He was lodged in the Warren County Regional Jail. His bond is set at $10,000.  A preliminary hearing in his case was scheduled Tuesday morning.
