Bowling Green Independent band teacher receives state award

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Kentucky Music Educators Association just named Christi Shores the 2022-2023 middle school teacher of the year.

Shores has been a band director for 16 years, this being her first time receiving the award. Shores said this is a once in a lifetime award, feeling quite honored by the recognition. Shores is aware that teaching can be a thankless job but her love of music keeps has kept her coming to work for years.

The band director said adding on to how special the award is, she’s really humbled to receive it as an assistant band director. “Usually your colleague gets the recognition for how well the program is doing”.
