WKU students remember the impact of Dr. Kay Meggers
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.-If you knew Dr. Kay Meggers, you were lucky.
“Goofy, authentic, just a ray of light…he was just happy to be there,” said one of his students Audrey Griffin.
Western Kentucky University students and staff are mourning the loss of beloved professor Dr. Meggers.
“It’s safe to say he has left a legacy and he won’t be forgotten anytime soon,” said another one of his students Caroline Cavin.
He passed away suddenly in an accident in Germany over winter break.
“I always say bad things happen to good people. because he was truly one of the nicest, kindest people I have ever been around in my entire life,” said Cavin.
Dr. Meggers was an Executive-in-Residence in WKU’s Management Department and taught marketing courses since 2017. After having an incredibly successful career as an executive, he decided to teach, even though he didn’t have to.
“I had other professors rave about him, about working with these big companies, Fortune 500 level and he’s just this amazing businessman, but if you talk to him he’s never gonna tell you that,” said Griffin.
He made the time to get to know each person that took his class… a roster number that reached into the hundreds.
“Each student wasn’t just a student to him. They were a person and he would make it a point to know one thing about each of his students, at least one thing that was their interests,” said Cavin.
He always wanted his students to exceed beyond the classroom.
“At the end of class he gave us a book that was called ‘Make Your Bed’, just talking about how you live your life. He was such a great professor, you learned a lot in his class but he gave you things for life,” said Griffin.
