Light the Path illuminates tornado path for 17 minutes in honor of lost lives

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.-On Sunday, you are invited to participate in a community light vigil which will illuminate the path of the 2021 December tornadoes.

This Saturday and Sunday, December 10 and 11 marks one year since deadly tornadoes ripped through our community.

Everyone is encouraged to gather together and shine lights towards the sky at 6:11 p.m.

This timing is approximately one year and 17 hours since the tornado began its destructive path in Warren County.

The lights are instructed to be on for 17 minutes to remember the 17 lives lost last December.

“I don’t know if people realize this or not but if you go and you check the Google Maps and look at Bowling Green just the right way, you can see the impression that was left by the tornado. Because you can see that, the idea was what if we took that scar and we turned it to light,” said Neighborhood Services Coordinator Karen Foley.

The Corvette Motorsports Track will be open Sunday for people to gather for this event.

City leaders also say that public property (sidewalks) lining the Bypass and Russellville Road and neighborhoods are also places to gather and shine a light.
