Epicenter recovering well after surgery, retiring from racing
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.-Locally born and bred racehorse Epicenter is recovering well after surgery.
The three-year-old thoroughbred fractured his right limb during the Breeders’ Cup. The second favorite to win, Epicenter’s jockey noticed after the first turn, that he wasn’t running as he usually does, immediately pulling him out of the race.
Sunday, he went into surgery and veterinarians put two screws into his leg. He’s recovering well and preparing for his new lifestyle as a stallion. He will not race again.
“It was where he was going to end up anyway, it’s just a little sooner than we would have hoped. You know hopefully he’ll be a successful stud as he has been on the racetrack,” said race manager David Fiske who saw him earlier today.
Epicenter will begin his new career as a stud in spring. Breeders’ cup winner Flightline retired after Saturday’s race and will also begin his career as a stallion next year.
