FAFSA student loans look different 2022-23; 108 question load drops to 36
Students happy over reduced question load
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Fall season means a new FAFSA release – a dreaded time of year for many college students, but this year’s form brings a couple of changes.
Many have said the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, an online application requirement for any college student seeking federal financial aid, has long-been overcomplicated.
FAFSA newly released their 2022-23 forms, with studentaid.gov highlighting a few changes.
Now, students who face drug convictions, and male students who do not sign up for the US Selective Service draft are both eligible for federal student aid for the first time.
But the biggest change by far? This year’s FAFSA showcases a simplified questionnaire, asking 36 questions as opposed to the 108 questions in previous years.
Western Kentucky University junior Jacob Robin, “I think that’s a great thing. I know personally when I do FASFA it’s always a struggle, especially with my parents because they want so much tax information.”
“I dread it every year,” added WKU junior Kinsey Burchett.
“I haven’t done it yet, but I’d like to see how it gets easier,” chimed in Atlas Mendoza.
FAFSA says in coming years, they will expand their Pell Grant eligibility, with big changes coming in the next academic year, according to studentaid.gov.
