Hearing aids available over-the-counter starting in October

KENTUCKY –Hearing aids will now be available over the counter starting next month. 

The FDA announced that they will now allow them to be sold at stores without an exam or prescription. 

This will lessen the cost and make hearing aids more widely accessible. 

Each hearing aid typically costs anywhere from $2,000 to $4,000 dollars. 

“Ultimately thinking about the cost that they’re going to endure for someone who’s going to be prescribed hearing aids versus what they’re going to be buying over the counter, I think there will be a lot of interest in that,” said Norton Healthcare APRN Dr. Rebecca Tatum

Dr. Tatum says they do recommend a hearing test before investing in hearing aids to make sure you get the right ones.
