KY soybeans and corn quality helps secure international trade deal
Taiwan officials visit Kentucky in anticipation of future corn, soybean purchases
FRANKLIN, Ky. – Kentucky’s Grade A vegetable farmers have helped clutch a huge win for America – their crops securing our nation two more years’ worth of international trade.
Representatives from The Republic of China recently visited four Kentucky farms among other farming businesses.
Impressed officials signed a letter of intent for Taiwan to purchase corn and soybean products from right here in the USA throughout 2023 and 2024.
Agriculture Commissioner of Kentucky Dr. Ryan Quarles said, “We’re really thankful the Taiwanese continue to make commitments to buy over $2 billion of corn and $2 billion of soybeans over the next few years which will benefit all Kentucky farmers.”
Randy Mann has spent the last 40 years farming crops like corn, soybeans and wheat.
“It’s a great opportunity not only to help our bottom line for our farmers,” said Mann, “but also it’s a great avenue to get those products known on the global stage.”
Mann says our Commonwealth’s name for high-quality soybeans sweetens this national deal on a local level.
“The protein content is huge [for buyers to consider] and making feed rations… which Kentucky does.”
Quarles added, “[our high protein soybean yield is] something that differentiates us from other states… 96 percent of consumers live outside of the United States, so when you look at our corn and soybean crop across Kentucky, we’re major players. We’re top 15 in corn, wheat and soybeans.”
You can help promote Kentucky agriculture as well on the Homefront by buying Kentucky Proud.
“Although today’s news is focused on international trade, if you want to support Kentucky farmers, go visit a Kentucky farmers market in a town near you.”
This way, you can support farmers like Mann who says, “I enjoy what I do. I’d like to continue farming at least another 10 years.”
